A Conversation in the Park: a Short Story
Lucy lives next to a big, beautiful park. Every morning, she goes there to relax. “I’m so lucky,” she thinks. “I really love this park, it’s so green and peaceful.”
One beautiful spring morning she is sitting on a bench under a tree. The sun is shining. Birds are singing. Suddenly, a man walks over to her.
“Excuse me,” he says. “Have you seen a small brown and white dog?”
“No, I haven’t” Lucy says. “What’s your dog’s name?”
“It’s a male dog. His name is Kiku.”
“Let’s call him together,” says Lucy. “Kiku! Kiku!”
They look around and walk a little. Then Lucy points to the other side of the park.
“Look! Is that your dog?”
They see a small white and brown dog sitting next to a woman who is eating sandwiches. The dog is calm and happy.
“Yes! That’s Kiku!” the man says.
They walk over. The dog wags his tail.
“I don’t think he was lost,” Lucy says with a smile. “He was just hungry!”
The man laughs, “I guess he loves sandwiches more than me!”
They laugh and Kiku finally gets a bit of the woman’s sandwich.

"Una conversazione al parco"
Lucy vive accanto a un grande e bellissimo parco. Ogni mattina ci va per rilassarsi. “Come sono fortunata”, pensa. “Adoro questo parco, è così verde e tranquillo”.
Oggi siede su una panchina sotto un albero. C'è il sole. Gli uccellini cantano. All'improvviso, un uomo le si avvicina.
“Scusa,” le dice. “Hai visto un cagnolino bianco e marrone?”
“No, non l'ho visto,” risponde Lucy. “Come si chiama il tuo cane?”
“È un maschio, si chiama Kiku.”
“Chiamiamolo insieme,” dice Lucy. “Kiku! Kiku!”
Si guardano attorno e camminano un po'. A un certo punto, Lucy indica l'altra parte del parco.
“Guarda! È il tuo cane?”
Vedono un cagnolino bianco e marrone seduto accanto a una donna che sta mangiando dei panini. Il cane è tranquillo e contento.
“Sì! Quello è Kiku!” dice l'uomo.
Si avvicinano. Il cane scodinzola.
“Non credo si fosse perso,” dice Lucy con un sorriso. “Aveva solo fame!”
L'uomo ride, “sembra che i panini gli piacciano più di me!”
Ridono, e Kiku riesce finalmente a mangiare un pezzo del panino della donna.
